SYNOPSIS: (From Goodreads)

Six months after Lanie Jacobs’ husband’s death, it’s hard to imagine anything could deepen her sense of pain and loss. But then Lanie discovers she isn’t the only one grieving his sudden passing. A serial adulterer, he left behind several other women who, like Lanie, each believe she was his legally wedded wife.

Rocked by the infidelity, Lanie is left to grapple with searing questions. How could she be so wrong about a man she thought she knew better than anyone? Will she ever be able to trust another person? Can she even trust herself?

Desperate to make a fresh start, Lanie impulsively takes a job at the family-run Capriotti Winery. At first, she feels like an outsider among the boisterous Capriottis. With no real family of her own, she’s bewildered by how quickly they all take her under their wing and make her feel like she belongs. Especially Mark Capriotti, a gruffly handsome Air Force veteran turned deputy sheriff who manages to wind his way into Lanie’s cold, broken heart—along with the rest of the clan.

Everything is finally going well for her, but the arrival of River Brown changes all that. The fresh-faced twenty-one-year old seems as sweet as they come…until her dark secrets come to light—secrets that could destroy the new life Lanie’s only just begun to build.

REVIEW:
**A copy of this book was provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.**

This is the third book and second full novel I have read by the author. I am not one for romance novels as they, depending on the author, are somewhat raunchy and overly descriptive. When the publisher asked if I would read this book I was thrilled. I had been wanting to read more books by this author and had been price stalking them on my Amazon wish list. Once again, the author did not disappoint.

Lanie is stepping out of her comfort zone. She has taken a temporary job two hours away from home as a graphic designer at a winery. She is looking for a fresh start. Her husband of five years recently died and she found out after he died that she was wife number 5 and the only legal wife. Being the only legal wife, she got his 100,000 dollar life insurance policy. She has been hounded since by the other 4 wives for a share of the money. Mark is a single father to a set of twins. His wife left him when the twins were babies because she decided that she wasn’t mom material. He gave up his military career to become a dad and now works as a deputy sheriff. Lanie meets Mark on her first day at her new job. He is the son of her new boss. They slowly form a relationship. Both say they don’t want anything more than a physical relationship. Can Lanie and Mark break down their walls and trust each other? Will Lanie’s past stop haunting her?

Oh my goodness, this book was wonderful. I totally devoured it. I went to NYC to BookCon and was able to knock most of it out on my flights. I loved the characters. The author’s descriptions allowed them to jump right off the pages and into your imagination. Lanie was sweet but kept people at a distance. After reading her backstory, you really couldn’t blame her. Mark was the same. I adored the twins from the get-go. I could feel their energy and the naive way they drew Lanie into their lives. I will be on the lookout for the next installment of this series. Hope I don’t have to wait too long.

STAR RATING: 5/5
