EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Debbie Sherman Talks New Movie The Forgiven

We have had the honor to talk with actress Debbie Sherman before about her work, but now she is back at it with another big screen blockbuster. The Forgiven stars Forest Whitaker, Eric Bana, Jeff Gum, and Debbie Sherman (of course!) With that all start cast, this movie is sure to be a hit. Recently released, we got to sit down and talk with Sherman about her role in the film, why fans will love it, and what she is working on now.

KRISTIN: Hi Debbie! It’s been a bit since we talked to you. What have you been up to?

DEBBIE: Glad to be back and talking with you guys! The Forgiven, my latest film, premiered a few weeks ago and is currently in theaters, on VOD and on iTunes. That’s been very exciting! I also have a few projects in the works and I am gearing up to film some more this year after my son is born (I am currently seven months pregnant).

KRISTIN: You have a brand new film out now, The Forgiven. Just hit theaters on the 9th of March. Tell us about this film.

DEBBIE: The Forgiven is very intense in subject matter as it depicts stories from post Apartheid South Africa. It centers around the great Desmond Tutu and his meetings with a brutal murderer. The film takes you through many different emotions and gives the audience an inside look at what took place during and after the Apartheid.

KRISTIN: Where does your character Linda Coetzee fit in to the story?

DEBBIE: Linda is married to a prison guard who has things that he needs to come to reckon with. Linda starts off with a happy life and is oblivious to what is going on. Her reality takes a turn for the worse as she is forced to deal with the actions of her husband.

KRISTIN: There are some incredible actors, including yourself, that worked on this project. What was it like working with the likes of Forest Whitaker, Eric Bana, Jeff Gum, and more?

DEBBIE: Forest, Eric and Jeff were wonderful to work with and such legends! I directly worked with Forest in one of my scenes and he is such a warm, professional and friendly person. This made my job so much easier! I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to have my name along side these giants.

KRISTIN: Roland Joffe was the director on The Forgiven. What was it like working with him and how did you try and make the vision he had for this film come to life?

DEBBIE: Working with an Oscar nominated director is intimidating and a dream all in one. He pushed me to new limits and really challenged me to be the best actor I could be. I learned so much from him and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to work with the likes of Mr. Roland Joffe.

KRISTIN: What will people love about this film?

DEBBIE: I think people will gravitate to the real depiction of post apartheid South Africa that is portrayed by Forest Whitaker and the other amazing actors. Eric Bana’s character really shows the harsh nature of how many white men treated African Americans at that time. The film is eye opening and sheds light on an era that some have either forgotten or know nothing about.

KRISTIN: What else are you currently working on? What should we be on the look out for?

DEBBIE: I have some super exciting projects that I will be filming at the end of the year! You can keep up with me on all of my social accounts and website for the latest on my career.
