The OWN Network is known for putting out some fantastic and diverse shows to entertain the masses. The Haves and the Have Nots is in it’s fifth season and continuing on strong. We got the opportunity to talk with Geovanni Gopradi about his roll as Broderick. He has lots of goodies to tell us about the season and what he has coming up.
KRISTIN: You have a lot of great experience in acting. What made you decide to become an actor?
GEOVANNI: I was searching for a way to overcome public speaking anxiety and after trying public speaking classes and other methods, decided to give acting class a shot. The class made me fall in love with acting.
KRISTIN: You are currently starring in Tyler Perry’s show The Haves and the Have Nots on the OWN Network. Tell us about the show and your role in it.
GEOVANNI: I play Broderick and he is an immigrant after the American dream through some questionable methods that end up landing him in some difficult predicaments.
KRISTIN: How do you relate to Broderick?
GEOVANNI: We’re both trying to reach higher and sometimes we get lost in the process.
KRISTIN: What is it about this show you think the viewers love? We are in season 5, which tells me it is highly liked.
GEOVANNI: The story, the emotionally charged cast and how the relatable the characters are.
KRISTIN: The cast you work with is incredible. Do you try and learn from them, just like I would guess they try and learn from you, as actors and trying to perfect your craft?
GEOVANNI: I do the learning, especially from the veterans on the show. They created the tempo and energy of the show, so as a new comer, I try to do it all justice and offer my collaboration.
KRISTIN: How do you get yourself into character? Do you have any tried and true ways you use?
GEOVANNI: Every character is different but a fundamental element I use are thoughts. Thoughts are specific to each person. Thoughts offer perspective, likes and dislikes, emotional connection, etc…
KRISTIN: You grew up in many different places around the world and acquired your Bachelors in History and International Law at Nova Southeastern University. Do you think you’d be doing something different if you weren’t acting?
GEOVANNI: My initial path was to attend law school but, in an attempt to overcome my anxiety, I passionately pursued acting.
KRISTIN: You are a huge supporter of the Special Olympics and the campaign “End of Word”. Tell us more about the campaign and why it is important to you?
GEOVANNI: It’s a campaign that is basically trying to eliminate that derogatory word: retarded. It used to be a term used in medical journals and has since then been removed. However, since it has been a part of our culture for some time. It is used in a demeaning and cruel way to describe an everyday scenario that might seem stupid or it’s directed towards a person in a negative connotation. And ‘Spread the word to end the word’ helps educate people that are unaware the effect it has on our community. Hopefully it will help someone to think before they speak and empathize with people facing mental challenges.
KRISTIN: Where can we keep up with you online? Twitter/Instagram?
