Jax Malcolm is small, but he is mighty. With projects like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, League, and The Other Side of the Door, he’s building his resume one fantastic role at a time. We got to talk to him about his latest accomplishments, nominations for the Young Artists and Young Entertainer Awards.
KRISTIN: We’ve talked with you before about your work on the film “The Other Side of the Door” and now you are back with a nomination for the Young Artists Awards and Young Entertainer Awards. How does it feel to have recognition for your hard work?
JAX: Yes, thank you so much for having me back! It’s really incredible to be recognized amongst so many other talented young actors. I worked really hard in the studio to bring the “creepy” factor to Oliver’s ghost and the final product was a great film. The nominations are really just the icing on the cake!
KRISTIN: Which projects led to the nominations?
JAX: Last year I was nominated by the Young Entertainer Awards for my work on the series finale’ of the League, it was a really fun project to be involved with! This year both the Young Artists and Young Entertainer Awards recognized me with nominations for my Voice Over work on the Other Side of the Door.
KRISTIN: You’ve worked on some great projects including Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on the CW, The League on FX, and then of course The Other Side of the Door. When you work with all these other incredible actors, what do you do to learn from them to better your craft?
JAX: I’ve loved having the opportunity to work with so many great comic actors like Nick Kroll, Keenan Ivory Wayans, and Nathan Fielder. It’s so much fun to be on sets like Crazy Ex with Golden Globe winner Rachel Bloom because they are always joking around working on new material. Whenever you have the opportunity to work with such gifted actors they always offer tidbits of advice on how to tweak a line to make it funnier or make more of an impact. That kind of input is invaluable as a young actor.
KRISTN: What projects are you working on that we may be on the lookout for?
JAX: I’m really excited to share that I’m working on a new web series called Conservation Invasion its focus is on the environment and what kids can do to make a difference in the world around them. We are currently in pre-production and episodes will be coming out later this year.
KRISTIN: You are very active as a Jr. Ambassador for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and a founding member of Heal The Bay’s Hollywood Ambassador Board. Tell us about your work with them.
JAX: Yes, I am an ambassador and speaker for CHLA. As a speaker I get to share my patient story with donors, members of the community and even get to speak at CHLA press conferences. This past year I held my first ever #ActionJax Movie Morning Fundraiser benefiting Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. I had the opportunity to use my network of industry friends, brands that I love, and companies who support me with great success. I was able to raise over $2,000 for the hospital. I would definitely call this one of my biggest achievements! I’m looking forward to the 2nd Annual #ActionJax Movie Morning Fundraiser October 7, 2017!
I am also honored to be a founding member of Heal the Bay’s Hollywood Ambassador Board. I’m a certified LA County Junior Lifeguard and working with Heal the Bay allows me to spread the message of keeping our beaches and water ways clean to preserve them for future generations. I also attend events at Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium where I get to the opportunity to influence other kids when it comes to keeping our beaches clean!
KRISTIN: How do you balance working and acting with being a kid and enjoying life?
JAX: It’s not always easy! The one thing to keep in mind though is that I’m already living my dream. A lot of people don’t know what they want to do with their lives until they’re much older. I knew when I was 5 what I wanted to do so even if I miss a birthday party, or hanging out at the mall with my friends I’m ok with it because I’m doing what I love!
