Another Nickelodeon show that everyone loves! Hunter Street takes a group of kids in foster care and adds a comedic fun spin on it, while keeping with reality. Sal, played by Daan Creyghton took time to talk to us about season two, which just started recently, what he thinks it is that draws fans to this show, and what he has coming up next.
KRISTIN: You are a young actor in Hollywood. At what age or at what moment did you realize you wanted to be an actor?
DAAN: I was about six years old when I realized I wanted to be an actor. My sister had a photoshoot with a casting agent and they asked me if I wanted to take some photos as well. About a week later, I signed up at the same agency and started getting small auditions. I realized I needed to start taking acting classes to do better in auditions and have a bigger chance of landing roles. While I was taking those classes, I realized how special and fun acting really is.
KRISTIN: You are starring in the hit Nickelodeon show “Hunter Street” as Sal. For those who have not seen the show, tell us about it and your character.
DAAN: Hunter Street is about a group of kids who live in a foster home with foster parents. In the first season, the parents, Erik and Kate, go missing. The Gunter kids look for them, which leads to many comedic and mysterious situations. My character in season 1 was the shy, nerdy kid—doing many experiments and being the “smart” one in the family. In season 2, my character changes a bit. He is still a techie and a computer whiz, the brains of the family, however he is not as shy anymore and he becomes more social.
KRISTIN: Season two just started. How has the reaction been from viewers so far? You are in the top five shows this year for K6-11 on TV. That’s impressive.
DAAN: It makes me super happy the fans like this season so much. The reaction has been phenomenal—many positive comments and hearts under my photos about this season which really makes me, and I think the entire cast, feel very lucky and very, very happy.
KRISTIN: You have a fantastic cast on this show. A ton of talent. What has it been like working with them?
DAAN: It has been a dream come true. I feel very fortunate be able to have worked on the 1st, and 2nd season with such a funny and talented cast. We are really close – we have a lot of fun on set and outside the set. I think what is super cool is that everyone supports each other and show we are proud of each other. We also prank each other, which makes for a very lively set. We dance and sing on set a lot together during the breaks. They really feel like my second family.
KRISTIN: Anything you can tell us about what to expect in season 2?
DAAN: Two very talented new characters, maybe some secret rooms, and of course a lot of mystery and comedy. Erik is being framed for a crime and the siblings want to know who framed him, why he is being framed and they want to clear his name. To do so, they have to come up with brilliant ideas and they need to go on mysterious adventures.
KRISTIN: Aside from Hunter Street, are you working on any other projects?
DAAN: Not yet, but hopefully soon. I will keep you posted!
KRISTIN: You are a Dutch actor and currently attend school and live in Amsterdam. How do you balance your normal life, being a kid, and working?
DAAN: It helps that the show does not air here, so I do not get recognized on the street a lot, and my family and friends help me stay grounded. School wise, it was hard to keep up with school and homework, but I knew that I wanted to do this, and make sacrifices to be able to do this. It also helped that my teachers were so supportive of me and helped me throughout the shooting.
KRISTIN: You have your whole life ahead of you. Aside from acting, is there anything else you’d like to pursue as you get older?
DAAN: I would love to help people around the world who live in developing countries.
KRISTIN: Where can fans follow you online? Do you have Instagram/twitter?
