The Stray film hits theaters TODAY. Before you swing by the theater to catch this incredible family friend film, we got to talk with one of its stars, actress Sarah Lancaster. She told us about the film, her character, working with the cast, and what she has coming up next. Check it out!
KRISTIN: Can you start by telling us how you got into acting?
SARAH: My family moved to California when I was about 10. I was painfully shy as a kid, but I loved watching movies and reading books. Escaping into other worlds. I started asking my folks if I could try to get an agent pretty soon after we moved out west. They we’re not thrilled with the idea to say the least… it took about 3 years of me wearing them down. For my 13th birthday they had a family friend come to our house to take pictures to send to agencies in LA. We submitted to so many places, everyone said no. Finally one agency said yes. The next year I booked Saved By The Bell The New Class.
KRISTIN: You have a new film coming out, The Stray. Tell us about this film and your character.
SARAH: The Stray is the true story of The Davis family. The too have moved to California in pursuit of the entertainment industry. When we meet the family they’re quite disconnected from each other. Mitch, ( Micheal Cassidy ) is working long hours at the studio, not doing the type of work he set out to do, never sees his family. Michelle, who I play, is at home with three small kids, essentially raising them by herself. Not to give too much away but after a series of events Michelle puts her foot down and says enough… and the family moves to Colorado. There, a stray dog finds them and brings them all together in a remarkable way.
KRISTIN: There is a great cast working with you on this film. How was it working with this group of actors?
SARAH: I adore Micheal Cassidy. He’s so smart. Has a son my oldest sons age. We talked lot about the industry, kids, books, it was great to spend time with him. That’s one of the best parts of the job, getting to know people. Actors are normally an intriguing bunch… for better or worse! It’s icing on the cake when they’re good peeps.
KRISTIN: This looks like an ideal family film. What do you think it is that will draw people in to want to see this?
SARAH: There is really a little something for everyone in this film. But what I love about it, is not only that it’s a true story… it’s a story about second chances. That it’s never too late to live the life you want to live.
KRISTIN: I’m always curious how it is working with animals on a film.
SARAH: Never work with kids or animals is what they say… Well… This movie has both! I won’t say which was easier!
KRISTIN: With the film releasing soon, do you have any other projects you are working on that we should be on the lookout for?
SARAH: I was pregnant with my second son during filming of The Stray, he’s now 7 months old so I’m just coming out of baby heaven. I’m just now starting to pursue things again…
KRISTIN: What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working?
SARAH: My two boys keep me busy. When I have spare time I still love to go see movies. I always have a book going. I love to workout, spin, weights, hot yoga, whatever I love getting out of my head.
KRISTIN: If you were not acting, what do you think you would be doing?
SARAH: I think perhaps I’d be a teacher. I love kids and I come from a long line of teachers.
KRISTIN: Where can we keep up with you online? Social media?
