Home / Blog / MOVIE REVIEW: San Andreas

Disaster movies are kind of my thing. I will watch the most cheesy, D-list disaster movie I can find playing on TV and love every moment of it. When I heard Dwayne Johnson was starring in a movie about an epic earthquake in California, I practically had my tickets bought at the announcement.

San Andreas

Anyone who loves action will love this. From the very start, there is action, adventure, and a bit of flirtation. I was practically pulling my hair out from moment one. Dwayne Johnson, who plays Ray, did a fantastic job. It’s obvious Johnson is made for action movies, but I’d like to point out how great he is at the dramatics and the emotions as well. Some of my favorite parts of this movie were the emotional, intimate moments within the family scenes. Johnson nailed them all. He’s among my favorite actors and San Andreas did not disappoint. Carla Gugino plays Emma, the soon-to-be ex-wife of Ray and mother of Blake, played by the incredible (and beautiful) Alexandra Daddario. This cast worked really well together. They looked the part, their emotional connections were incredible, and gave us a family to root for. Everyone did a fantastic job. This was some excellent casting.

Director Cameron Crowe did a fantastic job directing this film. It was realistic, which made it even more terrifying, and I would definitely watch a sequel if there was one. I’d recommend this for date night (there IS a little romance in the movie), a group of friends (male or female) hanging out or even a family night out. Although, if you are afraid of earthquakes or the possibility of being sucked into the ground, maybe avoid this movie. It likely won’t be winning any big awards, but it’s definitely great entertainment.
