Jack Vandervelt now only has the looks that have the ladies screaming, but he also has that perfect voice. This is proven by his new single Trouble that has dropped. Fans are loving it and we are positive you will too. We talked with Jack about his single and upcoming rumored EP. Check out what he had to say, pick up the single, and then share your feedback with us.
KRISTIN: Before we start talking about your music, can you tell us where you grew up and how you got started in music?
JACK: Hi Kristin thanks for having me! I grew up in a town outside of Boston. For as long as I can remember I have been playing music. My parents got me a drum kit when I was 5 because they were sick of me taking all their pots and pans out of the kitchen to use as drums. That was the start. It was not until I was 14 or 15 that I started playing guitar. This lead to songwriting and the songwriting lead to me wanting to do this for the rest of my life.
KRISTIN: You have a brand new single out, Trouble. When you were picking music for your EP, what made this song stand out as your next single?
JACK: I ran it by the group of people I trust and rely on for decisions like this. They all agreed Trouble was upbeat and energetic. They thought that would make a good single so we went with that one. I am never good at picking singles because I am attached to each song.
KRISTIN: What has reaction from the fans been like so far for the new single?
JACK: People have been really supportive. It is the first time I have had multiple radio stations play it which was very exciting. I will get messages from people I have never met talking about the single and that is was makes it so much fun.
KRISTIN: Now I know we’ve been talking about an EP. Is your new EP out or coming soon?
JACK: The new EP is on the way. I will have a lot of new music complete by the summer. However, I do not have a firm release date so feel free to check in on my socials for updates. A lot of new music is on the way!
KRISTIN: How would you describe your sound to someone who hadn’t heard it before?
JACK: I would say the easiest answer is acoustic pop. I am influenced by a lot of genres including singer/songwriter and EDM, but it always comes back to the acoustic pop.
KRISTIN: New single. New EP. Radio tour. What else do you have up your sleeve for 2017?
JACK I am opening for Aston Merrygold in England in early May. I am supporting him in Manchester May 3rd, Birmingham May 4th, and London May 5th. I will also have some more show updates soon so those will be posted on my socials. Most importantly, I have new songs!
KRISTIN: How do you feel your music has grown since you started in music? Do you feel your sound has changed?
JACK: I think my sound is changing a little as a I realize more and more what I want. I love so many styles of music that it is hard for me to say I can be only one of them. I have plans to blend a bit of electric elements to my songs but the rule I have in place for myself is that the instruments must be real instruments and a band must be able to play them live. My writing process is always based around an acoustic guitar so it is crucial to me to not stray to far from that.
KRISTIN: Where can we keep up with you online? Do you hold a social media presence?
JACK: As of now my “headquarters” is my Facebook music page. You can also find me on all the other social platforms as @jackvandervelde. I will be posting on these about all my future plans so again feel free to check in and say hi.
