SYNOPSIS: (From Goodreads)
Laura Clery makes a living by sharing inappropriate comedy sketches with millions of strangers on the Internet. She writes songs about her anatomy, talks trash about her one-eyed rescue pug, and sexually harasses her husband, Stephen. And it pays the bills!
Now, in her first-ever book, Laura recounts how she went from being a dangerously impulsive, broke, unemployable, suicidal, cocaine-addicted narcissist, crippled by fear and hopping from one toxic romance to the next…to a more-happy-than-not, somewhat rational, meditating, vegan yogi with good credit, a great marriage, a fantastic career, and four unfortunate-looking rescue animals. Still, above all, Laura remains an amazingly talented, adorable, and vulnerable, self-described…Idiot.
With her signature brand of offbeat, no-holds-barred humor, Idiot introduces you to a wildly original—and undeniably relatable—new voice.
REVIEW:
Honestly, when I saw that Laura had a book out, I kind of knew that I had to buy it and read it. I was a little scared because sometimes celebrities no matter how big or small they are really shouldn’t write books. (I am looking at you James Franco, that is 3 days of my life I will never get back). However, I follow her on Facebook and love the content that she puts out. She is brutally honest and she really doesn’t sugar coat things. She tells it like it is. The fact that she is absolutely hilarious helps as well.
This book is raw and amazing. Laura tells the story of her life up until the birth of her child. She tells how she tried her first alcoholic drink (a screwdriver) at the age of 12 and didn’t really stop until she decided to become sober. She talks about how she tried ecstasy and cocaine, but her drug of choice was alcohol and weed. She had horrible boyfriends who contributed to her alcohol and drug addiction. She tells us how she met her now-husband, at a party and they were the only sober ones at the party. You find out that they both fell off the wagon during their relationship but they managed to stay together through it all.
I don’t know what to say about this book. I was absolutely shocked that she actually survived everything that she threw at her body. The beating that it took and kept going. This book is raw and it shows how much of a disease addiction really is. She lays it all on the line. More than once throughout the story I found my jaw dropping with what happened. Seeing her today I would have never ever known that she abused alcohol and drugs. I commend her for being brave enough to tell her story. I am hoping that the author keeps her promise in the last sentence of the book and come through with a second book because I will definitely be in line to buy it!
