SYNOPSIS: (From Goodreads)

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College—Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky.

Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits—and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.

But a determination to survive won’t be enough this year.

Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College—and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end.

REVIEW:

This book series is all the rage.  I had wanted to read it for a bit. A family friend’s daughter loaned me the books to read.  I managed to find them on sale on Audible and got them because who am I kidding I don’t have time to read physical books half the time.  I read the first one and loved it so when I finished that I immediately started this one, hoping that it would be as amazing as the first one.

Violet’s second year at Basgiath War College is probably not going to be what she thought it would be.  She is still bonded to enemy to lover.  Her dragons are in her mind.  They plan a test for the different teams. Little did they know that Violet’s team event was soon to become an actual issue and unleash something that they have been trying to keep secret from the world.   What more could possibly go wrong this school year?  Oh my …… when I say I finished this book and was so damaged (in a good way) from this book that I couldn’t listen to anything else for like 2 weeks….seriously.  This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Half the time I was absolutely beside myself with what was happening.

I loved the character progression in this book.  She molded and formed Violet more than what she was last book.  She became tougher and less annoying almost in this book.  The storylines with her dragons was wonderful. The dragons I think offer some of the comic relief of the book. I found myself giggling with most of her interactions with the dragons.  The evolution with the relationship with Riorson is slowly coming along. They are both learning that they need to give and take in the relationship sometimes there is more give than take but that is what its all about.  There are deep moments in this book.  Things that Violet will take some time to recover from.  Things that will change her life completely. I don’t know what else to say.  For once I am at a loss of words, just go read this book, you won’t be disappointed.   I have already pre-ordered the third book for when it comes out in Jan.  I am so excited for the next installment of this series.
