Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.
Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.
Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.
REVIEW:
I had this book on my shelf for about a year. I think I bought it with the intention of reading it when we went on vacation. However, you know how that goes..always the best-laid plans go haywire. So back onto the shelf, it went when I got home. Fast forward to last week when Audible was having a massive high-rated book sale. I decided well it is on sale for 4.99 so why not just get it and listen to it? I was hoping it wouldn’t disappoint since I had heard so much about it.
Lo is a starving artist you could say. She is getting evicted from her apartment, and she has basically zero money. She spent the last little bit caring for her mother who told her when she dies she will basically have all the money she wanted…except that was a lie. So when she is approached by a major authors (Verity) husband is finish writing them for her since her health is declined she couldn’t turn it down it was more money than she thought she would ever have. Oh my gosh……I binged listened to this book in about 3 days. I couldn’t put it down. Even my husband said it must have been good because I kept shouting the characters as I listened to it My jaw was literally on the floor 80% of the time. Honestly, when I finished this book, I immediately called my sister who had read it and was like what the heck did I just read.
I really loved the character of Lo. Although she seemed a bit nosey at times, but honestly when she was dealing with what she thought she was dealing with I honestly give her a pass. She must have felt like she was living in a twilight zone. This is so hard to put to words without giving away the storyline! I thought it stange that the child was not saying a single word about any of the situation. He managed to keep the whole thing on the DL and keep everything a secret. Which honestly in my mind I don’t think is great. Kids should not keep secrets from your SO unless its like a present or something of that nature but what he was keeping secret was insane. As the story came to and end I still am not sure how I feel about the main male character. I am on the fence, The whole book I adored him then at the end I was like WWHHAAAATTTTT?!?!?! I need to reevaluate the whole thing. I did do the book that doesn’t have the extra chapter that the author wrote at a later date but I did ask my friend to take pictures of the book she has that has those in it and send them to me, I still need to read them but I am regrouping before I torment myself with more of this amazing book. I have already recommended it to several people and had a chat with a co-worker about the book as well. I can’t wait to read more books by Co Ho.
