BOOK TO MOVIE: Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin

When I was looking for a book to movie book to do for the month of Jan I looked for books that had been on my shelf for a bit as well as books that I was able to find in kindle unlimited for free.  So when I stumbled across this book and was intrigued to read it.

First off this book was a massive struggle bus for me.  It took me forever to read it, or rather longer than it would normally take for me to do it.  I just wasn’t feeling it.  The main characters are either spineless and whoa is me all the time or a complete and utter bitch who is only focused on herself and no one else around her.  She also blames everyone else for things that she herself should be responsible for.  To top it all of the subject matter, the cheating with the fiance who is marrying your best friend,  was something that slightly rubbed me the wrong way.  I was really hoping that the movie would be better than the book.  When I started the movie the first thing that really popped out at me was the fact that Ethan was actually in the movie at the beginning.  In the book, he is in London from the get-go.  He actually seems to replace the friend Hillary that they have seemingly written out of the movie altogether.  They wrote out a lot of other events that should have been kept in the book.  The dates that Rachel went on with Marcus were just left out.

I spent the entire movie trying to enjoy the movie since the book wasn’t that great.  All I could think was that I felt the movie was trying too hard with the all-star cast.  There were some things that were off, like Rachel and Dex not talking about what was happening until July 4th.  I really missed the boss of Rachel he made her miserable at work.  I thought that was a part of the story that needed to be left in.  Honestly, I could say more about the differences between the book and the movie but I don’t have all day to do so.  I thought the movie was good but just a little letdown, even though the book was also a massive letdown.  I have already removed the second book off my shelf and will not be reading it at all.  In the end, watch the movie it’s ok but I would skip the book, and that is something that I will rarely say.
