Tess escapes from Florida with a secret as big as Miami. She needs to find someplace to lay low and hide from her overbearing family. Mackinac Island, Michigan, should be the perfect place to hide out. However, her timing is a little off, it’s the dead of winter and she’s never been in temperatures below fifty degrees. Just her luck, her landlord, Lukas, is as hot as the sun. He’s also moody and hiding secrets as well. Which suits Tess fine. A man is the last complication she needs. A Michigan blizzard leaves them trapped in the same house together and things heat up, fast. Tess finds herself falling for Lukas, in spite of the secrets that could ruin everything before it even begins.
REVIEW:
Well ladies and gentleman!! I am back! Can’t say better than ever. In case anyone missed me I took the last year off of all things book related to work my way through Paramedic School….can’t say my mental health is any better but I am back and ready to tackle all the books I have missed over the last year. I decided to start small with a much shorter book, one that didn’t take up too much time since I am still studying to take the licensing exam for National Registry. I was ready to dive back into a good book and this one didn’t disappoint.
Tess is in a predicament. She is pregnant and single. She decides that she is going to leave Miami and find a new life in Michigan at Mackinac Island as a teacher at the school. What she wasn’t counting on was falling for her landlord Lukas. Lukas who also seems to have some skeletons in his closet and doesn’t really want to share….yet. So when a massive blizzard hits the island and her heat “breaks” she is forced to stay with her landlord….sparks will fly. I really enjoyed this book. It was the perfect book for me to dip my toes back into reading for pleasure again after such a long time away. it was just shy of 225 pages which was great for me. I required no thinking on my end. Not that it was a mindless book I just didn’t have to make head nor tails of who a killer could be. I loved the fact that it took place in my home state and someplace that is actually only 4 hrs from my current home.
The book isn’t exactly spicy so if that is what you are looking for then it may not be for you. I thought that it was the perfect amount of sweet. It wasn’t sickly over the top but it wasn’t like omg get the picture she likes you vibe. There was a curveball that I wasn’t expecting. It kind of built up Lukas’ skeleton and then when it was revealed it was not the skeleton that I thought it would be. The only weird thing was the way he kept his ex’s clothes in boxes, like I kind of get why but at the same time I’m like uhhhh why do you still have all of that stuff 2 years after a divorce. I really like reading about the island during the winter. I loved the fact that during the blizzard Tess and Lukas played board games and read Jane Austin to each other, I thought that it was so sweet. I know there are multiple more books in this series, this one was the first one. I may have to read the other ones at this point just to find out more.
