REVIEW:

When my book club picked out Hopeless to read by Colleen Hoover I was really excited.  I know that my friend likes her as an author and I have never read a single book by her.  I know that she is a very popular author and has written many books.  I knew that this book would be good.

Sky is a teenager who is living to dream.  She has a mother who loves her and is fairly lax in her rules, but Sky is a good kid….aside from sneaking guys into her room at night via her window to make out with boys.  While she may be know as a “slut” she has actually never made it past second base with any guy.  Her life is turned upside down when she meets Dean Holder.  Holder thinks that he knows her from somewhere.  What unfolds with Sky’s life after has her questioning everything about her upbringing.  This book was really good.  It did take me a bit to read it but that is on me.  I had another book I was reading that was distracting me.   Once I really got the ball rolling though I flew through the book.  While the subject matter was a little heavy at time and there was a bit more romance than was to be expected for a YA I really really liked it.  The  relationship that Holder and Sky was so sweet.  They really feed off each other and was the rock that each other needed at different times.

The author did a good job of showing what happens with the survivors as well as the perpetrators of rape.  Granted the ending is not what  Sky wants the ending to be but at the same time she has closure and hopefully has answers to her questions. I really wanted a happy ending for Sky, as the book progressed things just seemed to get worse and worse for her.  The only thing I really wished was that Holder honestly told Sky what he knew about her sooner.  I was happy that Sky was able to forgive him and move on with their relationship.  Once everything came out I could see why Sky’s mom did what she did and why she did it and I 100% percent supported her for what she did.   I will definitely be reading more books by this author and I think I will be reading the other book in this series that is from Holder’s point of view.
