SYNOPSIS: (From Goodreads)

As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn’t believe in lasting romantic relationships–but her best friend does, and that’s what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.

That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor–and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford’s reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive’s career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support and even more unyielding… six-pack abs.

Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

REVIEW:

Curse you BookTok!!!!!  Yet another book that I found on BookTok and just had to read.  I actually purchased this book after I went back to work after 11 years as a stay-at-home mom and got my first paycheck….because that is what you do…treat yourself to books on special occasions.. right?!?! However, it was one of the books I got with my two free credits when I signed up for Audible so I listened to it instead!  I was so excited to read/listen to this book.

Olive meets a blurry tall dark deep smoothed voiced man in the bathroom at the school she was looking into going to for her grad work.  She couldn’t see him because she in her infinite wisdom of trying to save money was wearing years expired contact lenses that affected her vision even after taking them out.  Fast forward two years she randomly kisses a guy in the hall, that man turned out to be the resident grumpy doctor. They end up fake dating for Olive’s friend’s sake…..or do they end up fake dating?  Oh my, this book.  I started listening to it on Thursday evening on my way to school and I finished it on my way home from work Saturday evening.  I listened to it the entire day Friday as I cleaned my house.  It was so good and cute.  The steamy part and there was only one but man it is extensive was steamy.  I fell in love with all of the characters.  They had the perfect amount of backstory that made you love them even more.

The book is well-written and flows easily from chapter to chapter.  I loved the HYPOTHESIS that is written at the top of each chapter as well.   It basically is a little story all in itself.  My only qualm with the book, like most books I read, is that the epilogue at the end was too short for me.  Yes, she gave us some clues as to what they had been doing but I wanted more.  I had fallen in love with their love story and wanted to see more from them.   The other thing that I love about this story was the fact that even as a rom-com it still had a villain that you don’t see as one until almost the very end.  Yes, there may have been some red flags with it but nothing in my mind that screamed out hey wait whoa.  I will certainly be adding more books that this author has written to my TBR list, I have fallen in love with her writing style and she will forever be on my automatically purchase anything she has written list.
