SYNOPSIS: (From Goodreads)

When King Jameson declares his love for Lady Hollis Brite, Hollis is shocked—and thrilled. After all, she’s grown up at Keresken Castle, vying for the king’s attention alongside other daughters of the nobility. Capturing his heart is a dream come true.

But Hollis soon realizes that falling in love with a king and being crowned queen may not be the happily ever after she thought it would be. And when she meets a commoner with the mysterious power to see right into her heart, she finds that the future she really wants is one that she never thought to imagine.

REVIEW:

I had really high hopes for this one, as I absolutely LOVED The Selection Series. If not for my love of that series, I don’t know that I would have actually finished this one.

It is clear to see that Kiera Cass loves to write about the different types of Royalty that are out there, along with all of the different customs and traditions. While some may seem archaic, others are charming. There was just something about the characters in The Betrothed that just didn’t connect for me, and that makes me just a bit sad.

There were so many different relationships surrounding Hollis, that I wasn’t really sure who I should be rooting for. Should I root for Delia Grace her “best friend”; or should I be rooting for King Jameson her “betrothed”? Why introduce and spend so much time on a family that is pretty much wiped out by the book’s end.

I just couldn’t get invested in the story, and I hope that the follow up novels will grab my attention better than this one. I am going to keep my hopes up that Cass brings it all together in The Betrothed , so that I can fall in love with these characters the way I did with those in The Selection.
