England, 1813. Nineteen-year-old Catherine Bennet lives in the shadow of her two eldest sisters, Elizabeth and Jane, who have both made excellent marriages. No one expects Kitty to amount to anything. Left at home in rural Hertfordshire with her neurotic and nagging mother, and a father who derides her as “silly and ignorant,” Kitty is lonely, diffident and at a loss as to how to improve her situation.

When her world unexpectedly expands to London and the Darcy’s magnificent country estate in Derbyshire, she is overjoyed. Keen to impress this new society, and to change her family’s prejudice, Kitty does everything she can to improve her mind and manners—and for the first time feels liked and respected.

However, one fateful night at Pemberley, a series of events and misunderstandings conspire to ruin Kitty’s reputation and she is sent back home in disgrace. But Kitty has learnt from her new experiences and what she does next does next will not only surprise herself, but everyone else too.

REVIEW:

My mother gave me this book to read more months ago than I care to admit.  It has been shuffling around my to-be-read pile all this time.  However, this last time that I redid my piles with a new and improved book cart, I stuck it at the top of my list and told myself that I would read it next.  So when one of my book clubs got canceled for the month of October I knew exactly what I was going to read, and it became one of the 9 books that I read that month.

Kitty has always had her sister Lydia to be her best friend but when Lydia runs off with Mr. Wickham she is left alone.  Even more alone now what her sisters Jane and Lizzy are now married and live away from the family.  Lizzy is far away in Pemberly but Jane lives close by in their estate.  Well, Mary still lives at home but that is beside the point.  When Lizzy invites her to go to London with them Kitty is over the moon.  It takes her on a journey to discover herself and to see new things.  My oh my….. why did it take me so long to read this book.  It was so good.  I felt like it was just a continuation of Pride and Prejudice.  I could see it happening as if it was a movie.   I could see all the actors from the 1995 BBC adaptation of it playing all the roles,  I was shocked by the twist ending with Mrs. Bennett, honestly didn’t see that coming at all.

I really loved how the author made Kitty more approachable.  I now look at her character in a completely different light.  Gone is the childish person and in place is a person that has a thirst for knowledge and is just as witty as her sister Lizzy.  She became her own person.  I always thought of her as Kitty and Lydia both very silly girls but not anymore.  I thoroughly enjoyed the little romance between her and Henry Adams.  It was so cute and loved how it just formed over him giving her piano lessons.  I am so glad that Kitty finally got the happy ending she so deserved.  I checked for another book by this author and didn’t see one yet.  Her about the author at the end says she is currently writing it.  When it comes out you can bet that I will be getting it.
